The story of Monkey Island begins with Guybrush and Elaine hanging from ropes in a hole. Elaine asks Guybrush to explain what has happened up to this point, and he begins to talk. Most of the game is played through this flashback that explains why Guybrush is in such a predicament. The story goes that LeChuck has been resurrected, and Guybrush must find Big Whoop in order to stop him. He will be sent to many islands and have to solve many puzzles to accomplish his task.
